Who was Captain Vikram Batra?
26 years ago, in 1999, there was a war between India and Pakistan. In this war, India defeated Pakistani soldiers and forced Pak soldiers to flee. During this time 527 Indian soldiers of India were martyred and more than 1300 were injured. This action of Indian security forces was carried out under “Operation Vijay”.

Captain Vikram Batra was born in 1974 in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh. He passed the Joint Defense Examination of the Indian Army in 1996 and became a lieutenant with a commission in the army. During ‘Operation Vijay’, on 20 June 1999, Delta Company Commander Captain Vikram Batra was entrusted with the responsibility of attacking Point 5140. He led his squad at the forefront and overshadowed the enemy.
On 7 July 1999, near Point 4875, he was entrusted with the task of eliminating the enemy with a narrow peak with a big slope on both sides. During this time too, he showed indomitable courage and piled 5 enemy soldiers in a face-to-face battle. Despite the heavy shelling from the enemy, he fulfilled the responsibility given to Point 4875 but was martyred after being seriously injured.
