Who was Captain Vikram Batra?

During ‘Operation Vijay’, on 20 June 1999, Delta Company Commander Captain Vikram Batra was entrusted with the responsibility of attacking Point 5140. He led his squad at the forefront and overshadowed the enemy.
On 7 July 1999, near Point 4875, he was entrusted with the task of eliminating the enemy with a narrow peak with a big slope on both sides. During this time too, he showed indomitable courage and piled 5 enemy soldiers in a face-to-face battle. Despite the heavy shelling from the enemy, he fulfilled the responsibility given to Point 4875 but was martyred after being seriously injured.
