VIDEO: Rinku Singh rocked before Asia Cup, stormy century in UP T20 league
In the 9th match played in the UP T20 League on Thursday, 21 August, Meerut Mavricks won a stunning victory by defeating Gaur Gorakhpur Lions by 6 wickets. No one else but captain Rinku Singh played an important role in Meerut’s victory and snatched the match from Gorakhpur due to his stormy century. With this victory, Meerut’s team has reached third place in the points table.
Meerut’s team was in trouble chasing a minor target of 168 runs in the match played at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. After falling 4 wickets for 38 runs in the 8th over, it seemed that Meerut’s team would lose the match but captain Rinku Singh not only brought back his team in the match with Sahab Yuvraj (22* runs) but also gave Meerut a charismatic victory by scoring a brilliant century.
Rinku remained unbeaten on 108 off 48 balls in the 19th over. The left -handed batsman hit 7 fours and 8 sixes in his innings. Out of these 8 sixes, 5 sixes came off his last six balls, where he hit the 18th and 19th over against Abdul Rahman and Vasu Vats. This was also Rinku Singh’s first T20 century of his career and perhaps it came at the right time as Rinku has been selected for the Asia Cup 2025 and if he continued his performance, it would be very difficult to keep him out of the playing XI.
Chasing a Target of 168, Rinku Walks in at 38-4. Scores unbeated 108 off 48. Wins the game in the 19th over.
The one. The only. Rinku Singh!

Looking at Rinku Singh’s T20 career so far, Rinku’s figures were amazing, till the T20 series against Bangladesh last year. He scored 479 runs in 19 innings at an average of 59.87 and a stunning strike rate of 175.45, including three half -centuries. Since then, Rinku has been struggling to get his rhythm back and his decline is clearly visible. In India’s previous two bilateral T20 International Series against South Africa and England, his performance was very poor. In seven matches, the left -handed batsman scored just 67 runs at a minor average of 13.40 and his strike rate fell to 101.51. The tour of South Africa was particularly disappointing, where Rinku was able to score only 28 runs at an average of 9.33 and his strike rate was very poor at 82.35.
