Village court found him guilty of black magic, people caught him and burnt him alive

New Delhi. A shocking incident has come to light from Nuapada district of Odisha. Here people caught a 50 year old man and burnt him alive. Fortunately, he somehow reached the local pond and his life was saved. Actually, Kham Singh Majhi of the village was accused of black magic. People of his community set up an informal court on this issue.

Where the judges declared him guilty of black magic. Before this court could give him any punishment, the angry people gathered at the spot caught Kham Singh. It is being told that Kham Singh was tied with straw ropes and then some angry people set him on fire.

Went door to door asking for help

Burning badly in the fire, Kham Singh ran here and there for help, but no one helped him. Then with the help of his family members, he somehow reached the local pond and saved his life. He was admitted to the nearby Sinapalli Government Hospital in a badly burnt condition. Due to his serious condition, he has been referred to the District Headquarters Hospital.

witnesses are not coming forward

According to the police, this incident took place late Friday evening in Portipada village. Due to local community court being set up, people are avoiding giving testimony in it. Majhi’s son Hemlal claimed that the villagers had called a meeting and threatened his father with dire consequences for practicing black magic. When he denied the allegations, they first beat him and then set him on fire.

The accused absconded from the village

Khariar sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Arup Behera said a case has been registered at Sinapalli police station. Police are searching for the accused, many of whom have fled the village. Behera said that according to the allegation, an attempt was made to burn him alive. The investigation is still in the initial stages. Only after complete investigation will we be able to find out the reason for the attack.
