Former Team India player Mohammad Kaif has made a big claim about the test retirement of Virat Kohli. Kaif says that Kohli himself wanted to play Test cricket, but BCCI did not give a place in the team in view of his poor form. He said that Virat had played Ranji and was ready to play the England Test, but he did not get the support from the selectors.

Virat Kohli’s sudden decision to retire from Test cricket shocked everyone. Many people hoped that he would continue to play till the age of 40, but at the age of 36 he said goodbye to this format through Instagram post.

Now the big statement of former cricketer Mohammad Kaif has come out on this retirement. Speaking to IANS, Kaif said that Kohli himself did not decide to quit Test cricket, but the BCCI and the selectors refused to give a place in the team in view of their form.

Kaif said, “I think Virat wanted to play Test cricket. He had also played the Ranji Trophy, which seemed to be liked to return. But perhaps he did not get the support he had expected.”

Kaif also said that Virat’s habit of getting dismissed in slip and the last few years in Tests must have been part of the conversation between him and the board. He admitted that BCCI’s communication and self -prudence would have forced Kohli to this decision.

Kaif was not surprised at Rohit Sharma’s retirement, but Kohli’s departure surprised him. He said, “Kohli always considered the Test as his favorite format. He used to praise it again and again in the interview. In such a situation, his sudden retirement is beyond understanding.”

Kaif believes that even though Kohli’s figures have fallen in a few years, his fitness and experience could have been beneficial for the team’s youth. He believes that Virat should have got some more time.
