Virender Sehwag Share MasterPlan for T20 World Cup 2026: Former Indian cricket team opener Virender Sehwag believes that the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 will not only be a trophy winning tournament, but it is a golden opportunity to start preparations for the next big challenge i.e. T20 World Cup 2026.
India will land as the current champion in the tournament this time, but the face and situation of the team have changed. Team India will enter the Asia Cup with a new captaincy and new head coach, so Virender Sehwag says that this is the right time when management should recognize the real power of the team for the future.

In a conversation with Sony Sports Network, Virender Sehwag said, “According to me, this Asia Cup in T20 format is the best platform for us for the World Cup 2026. Here new players will get a chance to try and see who can be a part of the team in future. The real team building can start from here.”
Virender Sehwag also said that this time is very important for head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav. Both of them should together assess the strength and weaknesses of the team, so that a concrete plan can be prepared for the upcoming big tournaments.
Jaspreet Bumrah’s return
Jasprit Bumrah’s return to the team strengthened Indian bowling. He did not participate in two matches on the tour of England due to workload management. Bumrah’s last T20 match was the World Cup final against South Africa in June 2024, where India registered a historic victory.
When will Team India match be held in Asia Cup?
The Asia Cup 2025 will start from 9 September. India will play its first match against the host UAE on 10 September. On September 14, India and Pakistan teams will face face to face in Dubai. Team India’s last match in the group stage is to be played against Oman on 19 September.
