#Voice of unruly: People are participating in India TV’s campaign
Sounds of unruly
The Supreme Court on Monday directed that the municipal bodies of Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad (Delhi-NCR) were removed from the city and kept at the shelter sites. This decision of the Supreme Court regarding stray dogs has raised a question. Removing or eradicating stray dogs cannot be solved. Now about the question, what is the way again? What to do? On the one hand, the concern of humans, on the other side the life of animals. India TV has run a campaign regarding this question. Asked people to tell the way that is human and practical. We cannot leave stray dogs on the streets, and cannot even let them die! Where to keep them? How to take care of them? Suggest a way. People are taking part in this campaign of India TV. People are also telling a lot of solutions for this.
In this camp of India TV, there was a suggestion as Solution Number 1 that why should not the dogs be sterilized. This can curb the problem. This is a simple way to control the population of dogs.
What is a dog sterilization?
Dog sterilization is a common surgical process. The sterilization of male dogs is called ‘Castration’. In this, the testicles of the dog are removed. In the female, this process is called spaying. Uterus and ovaries are removed in this process. It is usually advised to sterilize dogs from 6 to 9 months of age.
Any rule or law for sterilization of dogs?
At present, there is no compulsory government law for sterilization of pet dogs. But this can be a better option to control the population of stray dogs. Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023 are applicable for controlling the population of stray dogs and prevention of diseases like rabies. These rules are operated under the Animal Cruelty Prevention Act, 1960. Till now, stray dogs were caught by local municipal bodies and animal welfare organizations (AWOS) under these rules. After this, their sterilization was given by rabies vaccine. After the operation, after taking care for a few days, he was left back to the same area from where he was caught.
Why should a dog sterilization?
The sterilization of dogs reduces their aggressive behavior. They calm down. Also, the risk of many types of cancer and other diseases is reduced in them. This loses breeding capacity and helps prevent increasing number of stray dogs on the streets.
