Watch: Tilak Verma created a blast in county, after making notout 98, said- ‘People think that I am just a good player of T20’
On June 23, two Indian batsmen trying to make it to India’s Test team made their county debut. Ishaan Kishan made his debut for Nottinghamshire against Yorkshire in County Championship Division One 2025, while Tilak Verma also left no stone unturned to impress in his county debut.
Scored an unbeaten 98 on the second day of his debut match for Hampshire. England’s fast bowlers were on a hat -trick when Verma came to the crease. Cook dismissed Alastair Or and Nick Gubbins on consecutive balls in the ninth over. Cook recently made a Test debut against Zimbabwe, where he took a wicket. He was also part of the England team for the first Test, but did not get a chance to be a part of the playing XI.
He was released to play in a county match. After the first two wickets, Verma handled the team with opener Flecha Middleton. Middleton was dismissed by the off -spinner Simon Hummer in the 30th over. The opener scored 61 off 82 balls. Middleton and Verma shared a 52 -run partnership. Verma continued batting patiently. At the end of the day’s play, Verma was batting after scoring 98 runs off 234 balls. Hampshire’s score was 293/4, three runs behind Essex’s first innings score.
After the day’s play, Verma spoke openly and told how close Test cricket is to his heart. Verma told Hampshire County, “When you are at the score of 90 at the end of the day’s game, it goes on in your mind. You think 2 more runs, 5 more runs. I am living in the present. Even after 100, even after 100, I have to fix a long way. I see it like this. If we move forward and 100-150 runs from here, then it is good for us and the team.”

Speaking further, Tilak said, “I always say that Test cricket is my favorite game. I was waiting for this opportunity. As the number 3 batsman in the world in T20 International, everyone thinks that I am a good T20 batsman. But I have been saying this and I have been saying this for a long time, I am a good Test player. I am a good Test player. I like to play Test cricket, play in the situation, specially. The weather was cool, so the ball was moving a little and was bowling very well.
