Islamabad: A United Nations report on Thursday stated that the Taliban tortured by the Taliban due to their identity or personal history to Afghanistani citizens sent back from Iran and Pakistan. Pakistan and Iran are expecting millions of Afghans from their countries, which they call illegally living migrants. Afghan officials have urged citizens to return and have also announced forgiveness for those who left the country after the Taliban came to power in 2021. However, the human rights organizations and the United Nations have repeatedly warned that some returning people are at risk of harassment due to their gender, relationship with West-supported East or profession.
Inhuman behavior with people
The report released on Thursday of the United Nations Mission in Afghanistan stated that some people have faced serious human rights violations, while others have been forced to hide or change the location with the possibility of retaliation by the Taliban. According to the report, violations include torture, misconduct, arbitrary arrests and personal security at the hands of the Taliban. A former government official told the United Nations Mission that he was detained after returning to Afghanistan in 2023 and beaten badly with sticks and stars. A transgender reported that he was beaten up badly, even killed by gun butt.

Girls and women are strict restrictions
The United Nations Human Rights High Commissioner Volcker Turk said that no one should be sent back to a country where he is at risk of harassment due to his identity or personal history. He said that in the case of Afghan women and girls, this situation is even more clear, which faces many cases of “harassment based on gender only”. The Taliban has imposed strict restrictions on Afghan girls and women. These include the education ahead of the sixth grade, most of the employment and restrictions on going to many public places.
What did the Taliban officials say?
Reacting to the report, the Taliban officials denied abuse with Afghan citizens and dismissed allegations of arrest, violence, intimidation or vengeance based on identity or personal history. He said that Afghan citizens returning from neighboring countries were provided facilities related to documentation, transport, rehabilitation and other legal aid. He said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has “warmly welcomed” by the Ministry of Home Affairs. (AP)
