What happens when an astronaut reaches the international space station, watch live video
Astronauts arrived at the international special station.
Nasa: When an astronaut reaches the international space station (ISS), it has to pass through a highly systematic and technical process. This process is completed in several stages. When Shubhanshu Shukla’s spacecraft reached ISS, he was also strongly welcomed. Earlier astronauts embraced new astronauts. He was all seen floating in the air.
1. Docking
Spacecraft (such as Spacex’s Crew Dragon or Russia’s soyuz) slowly connects with ISS. This process takes place on its own but both ground control and astronauts monitor. The air pressure is equal after successful docking.
2. Hatch Opening and Welcome
After the air pressure is equal, the hatch (door) between the space station and the spacecraft is opened. Already existing astronauts warmly welcome the new crew. Often this moment is recorded on the camera and NASA or other space agencies broadcast it live.
3. Health Check & Adaptation
There is a preliminary investigation into the health of the new astronauts who arrived in the space. They have to adapt themselves for microgravity, which may take a few hours to a few days. Gravity is so low that astronauts float in the air at the space station.
4. Commencement of Duties
After completing the above procedures, astronauts are engaged in their research, scientific experiment, maintenance, and other responsibilities. Their routine includes scientific experiment, space walk preparation, station repair and cleaning, exercise (exercise) – about 2 hours every day, to keep muscles and bones healthy.
5. Food and life
Space -gone astronauts especially eat packaged food. Water is made potable by recycle. Every astronaut has a small private quarter for sleep.
6. Earth contact
Astronauts regularly keep in touch with the Earth with mission control. Sometimes they also communicate with their family or public on earth through video calls or social media.
Life of astronaut in ISS
There is no experience of gravity here. That is, humans, food items, equipment float everything. The effect of this is that the body’s fluids move upwards, which makes the face a little bloated. Bones and muscles begin to weaken, so daily exercise (up to 2 hours) is mandatory.
How to sleep?
There is no “up” or “down”. Astronauts sleep with a wall in a sleeping bag to sleep. They can sleep in any direction, but the bag keeps them stable in one place.
How to eat food?
Food is in special packaging – mostly dry, reorganized or tube food. Spices (such as salt-pepper) are in liquid or powder form so that they do not swim.
How to do toilets?
The toilet system is special in space. The urine is drawn into a tube and later recycle in the form of water. The solid waste is secured with the help of a vacuum and is later sent to the Earth or destroyed in the space.
What do astronauts work?
Scientific experiment (biology, physics, earth observation), repair and monitoring of space station, deployment of satellites, live interactions from schools and media
Other interesting facts
- ISS makes a round around the earth every 90 minutes.
- Here is the sunrise-sun-sun 16 times a day.
- The size of the ISS is approximately equal to the football ground.
- Its capacity can range from about 6-7 astronauts to 20 at a time.
- Usually astronauts stay on ISS for 6 months. Time can only increase under special circumstances.
