Women in Afghanistan
United Nations: The situation of women and girls in Afghanistan is worrying. The Taliban has imposed strict sanctions on Afghan girls and women. Girls cannot study beyond the sixth grade and have been banned from going to many public places of women. Meanwhile, an independent investigator of the United Nations, who reviewed the human rights in Afghanistan, has said that the Taliban rulers in the country have ‘used’ a ‘weapon’ as a ‘weapon’ to persecute women and girls which is similar to ‘crime against humanity’.
Report submitted to United Nations General Assembly
Investigator Richard Bennett said in a report submitted to the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday that after grabbing power in 2021, the Taliban suspended the 2004 constitution and laws protecting the rights of women and girls. These include the historical law that declared 22 forms of violence against women including rape, child marriage and forced marriage as a crime.
Judges were dismissed
Bennett said the Taliban sacked all the judges of the previous US -backed government, including about 270 women. After dismissing the US -backed judges, the Taliban replaced men who do not have legal training. These judges give decisions based on the orders issued from the Taliban Kore.
Taliban has taken full control
Richard Bennett said that the Taliban has taken full control over law enforcement and investigative agencies and systematically removed the officers working for the previous government. Bennett, appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council, has focused on access to justice and security for women and girls. Bennett reported that he has held meetings, collective discussions and personal interviews with more than 110 Afghan citizens to prepare his report. Since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, it has imposed extensive sanctions on women and girls who were condemned globally. (AP)
