The government has made great preparations to curb fake calls on OTT platforms like Whatsapp, Telegram. The Ministry of Electronigs and Information Technology (Meity) has decided to run a comprehensive campaign for this. For this, the government has recently held a meeting with Skatelders. Scammers are these days fraud with people by resorting to OTT platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, which the government has taken this big step.
Fake calls will be controlled through OTT
Apps like Whatsapp, Telegram are operated through the Internet. Calls and messages coming on these platforms cannot be regulated by telecom companies. In such a situation, scammers have chosen people to target people through fake calls and messages through these platforms. The government has recently formed a joint committee with TRAI i.e. telecom regulator as well as other regulators, which will work to stop the scam to be done through OTT and RCS.
In August last year, TRAI has released strict guidelines to improve the quality of service of telecom users. Among them, a regulatory framework has been prepared for uncertain Communication (UCC). However, it does not include OTT players.
Quality of service will be improved
Reporting spam calls under the new regulation of TccCCPR has become easier for users. Not only this, users will be able to identify fake calls coming on their phone easily. Telecom operators have also installed AI based filters at the network level for this, which will work to block commercial communication coming without prescribed messages. According to government data, up to 90 percent of fake calls and messages are stopped at the network level after the new regulation.
