History of Sanskrit Day: Celebrating Sanskrit Day was started by the Government of India in 1969. Its main objective was to spread awareness among the people about Sanskrit language, establish its importance and revive it. This decision was taken because Sanskrit is considered the mother of all Indian languages. Through this day, the government also launched several schemes for the promotion of Sanskrit language.

Importance of Sanskrit:

1. The mother of languages: Sanskrit is considered to be the mother of Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati and many other Indian languages. Its grammar and word-storing are very rich, which can be clearly seen on all these languages.

2. Stores of knowledge and science: All our ancient texts, such as Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Ramayana and Mahabharata, are written in Sanskrit. Ancient knowledge of subjects like Ayurveda, astrology, mathematics and astronomy is also present in Sanskrit.
