When Dharmaraja Yudhishthira left heaven for a refugee dog, what happened then? Read the story of Mahabharata

Panch Pandav and a dog in the last journey to heaven

After the war of Mahabharata, when the lifetime of the Pandavas was completed, they took away from their path. The five Pandavas – Yudhishthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula, Sahadeva – and Draupadi, all set out on their last visit to heaven. But, in this difficult journey, everyone gave up his body one by one.
When Yudhishthira remained alone and proceeding on his journey, a dog was also walking with him. This dog kept playing with them all the way. When Yudhishthira reached the door of heaven, he was only a dog with him.
Indra’s condition and Yudhishthira’s determination

He met Indra Dev at the door of heaven. Indra welcomed Yudhishthira and told him that he could enter heaven along with the body due to his religion and honesty. But, he laid a condition that Yudhishthira could live in heaven in a living state, but for this he would have to leave the dog who came along.
Hearing this, Yudhishthira’s mind got distracted. He looked at the dog, who was playing with him throughout the journey, and then firmly to Indra: “I have no need for heaven for which the dependent refugee religion has to be renounced. I have accepted this dog as a partner of my journey, and I cannot leave it in the same way. It is my duty to protect it.”
Yudhishthira made it clear that he cannot renounce a refuge and loyal creature and go to heaven. For them, following his theory and religion was much more important than the happiness of heaven.
The last test of religion and the entry of heaven

Indra was even more pleased to hear this matter of Yudhishthira. Then the dog showed his true form. He was none other than Dharmaraj Yamdev. Yamdev took the final examination of Yudhishthira’s pioneering, in which he was successful. Yamdev hugged Yudhishthira and blessed him.
Subsequently, Yudhishthira entered heaven along with his body, where he received a divine body. This incident established why Yudhishthira was called ‘Dharmaraja’. For him, the ultimate goal of life was also not more than his principles.
