When is Muharram and what happens this year?
Islamic New Year: This year, according to 1447 Hijri, the month of Muharram will start from 26 June 2025 and will run till 25 July 2025. At the same time, this date depends on the look of the moon, so it may also change.
It is also possible that the month of Muharram in 2025 this year is expected to start on 27 June 2025, Friday evening. Especially 10 Muharram, called Ashura, will take place on 5 July 2025 this year. Therefore, according to the Islamic calendar, Muharram is possible to start on 26 and 27 June 2025 and Ashura i.e. 10 Muharram will be celebrated on 6 or 7 July 2025.
What is Muharram?
Islamic new year and Pak month : Muharram is the first month of the Islamic almanac and is considered one of the 4 Pak months. For those who believe in Sunny/Sunni according to Islamic belief, Ashura’s day is a symbol of the day when Prophet Musa (A) and his followers were freed from Ferroun.
One such day which is the 10th day of Muharram, which is known as the day of Ashura. The word Ashura is derived from the word ‘Ashrah’, which means ten (10) in Arabic. It comes in the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar and is counted in the virtuous days of the year.
Therefore, Muslim people keep fast at this time, due to which the great importance of Ashura has been told in the religion of Islam. And for Shia Muslims, this day reminds me of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (Ra), he was martyred in the battle of Karbala.
According to religious belief, the Prophet Muhammad (Sall.) Had advised to fasting 10 Muharram and described it as a removal of crimes. During these days, it is advisable to do meditation and noble work and fasting. Also, Shia community participates in Majlis, Tazia procession etc. This day holds religious and emotional significance.
