‘Whether you lose in England, but make Shubman Gill a captain for 3 years’
Ravi Shastri, former head coach of the Indian cricket team, has demanded Shubman Gill to keep the captain for 3 years. He has said that Shubman later Indian team Can give good results to. Shastri believes that even though India loses the current series against England, Shubman should be given at least three years.
Gill has been appointed as the new captain of India after Rohit Sharma retired from the longest format of the game. 25 -year -old Gill made a great start to his tenure and became the fifth Indian captain to score a century at the beginning of the captaincy. However, his innings went in vain as England, chasing a target of 371 runs in the fourth innings, defeated India by five wickets.
Despite India’s defeat, Gill earned praise from Ravi Shastri. Speaking to Wisden, Shastri said, “He has become quite mature. The way he handles the media, the way he talks in the press conference and in the toss, he has become quite mature. Let it be in the team for three years. Whatever it is in the series, don’t make any changes to him. Stay with him for three years and I think he will do well for you.”
Apart from this, he also said that this young player has all the elements of becoming one of the great players of the game and needs to be adapted to the situation over time. Speaking further, he said, “If Gill is unable to move forward, I will be disappointed. Dull, lazy and fantastic, and when they bat, they have a royal style. If he can learn with experience and mold the circumstances, then I think he is a name that I can see.”
After the first Test defeat, the Indian team will expect to return from the second Test starting at Edgbaston, Birmingham from July 2. However, India has never won a Test match on this ground, it has lost seven of the eight matches played. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see whether the team led by Shubman Gill can change history or not.
