Actress Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency will soon release in theatres after it finally received censor board certificate from the CBFC. Meanwhile, the film underwent 13 cuts before receiving a U/A certficate.

New Delhi: After facing several challenges and cuts, actress Kangana Ranaut-starrer Emergency has finally received a censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. Now, the film will be released soon in theatres. The political drama courted controversy after Sikh organisations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, accused the film of misrepresenting the Sikh community and distorting historical facts.
At the time of the controversy, the actress revealed that she and the censor board had received threats and were under intense pressure not to show the assassination of the former prime minister of India, Indira Gandhi. Meanwhile, the film, which was initially scheduled to release on September 6, witnessed several delays due to no certificate from the censor board.
Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency to release soon
Actress Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency will finally receive a censor board certificate after a long battle in court. Announcing the news, Kangana Ranaut shared on X (formerly Twitter), “We have received the certificate for our movie Emergency. We will be announcing the release date soon, thank you for your patience and support. @manikarnikafilms @zeestudiosofficial @nishantpitti.”

Earlier, the production company, Zee Studios, agreed to modifications and cuts in the film as suggested by the Central Board of Film Certification
The censor board issued 13 cuts and modifications in the film and passed it with a U/A certificate. The revising committee told the makers that only after the suggested cuts, the film will be allowed to be released in theatres.
The cuts in the film included violent scenes, a reference to Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as a “saint’ in a dialogue, and others. After the censor board denied certification, Zee Studios also moved to the Bombay High Court, seeking the censor board’s direction to issue the film’s certificate.
When Kangana Ranaut sold her property after the film’s delay
After the film Emergency was denied a censor certificate, Kangana Ranaut said that she was forced to sell off her Mumbai property after the film was postponed. “I had staked my personal property on this film, which was supposed to come in theatres. Now it is not releasing, so the property is there, to be sold off in difficult times,” she said.

Kangana Ranaut starrer Emergency revolves around the emergency imposed by the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, for 21 months from 1975 to 1977 and the aftermath of imposing emergency. The film also stars Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhry, Shreyas Talpade, and Milind Soman.
