New Delhi: After the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, the discussions on who will be the next Vice President of the country are still intensified. Nominations have also started to file with the notification for the Vice Presidential election. The name of any candidate has not been announced by the NDA yet. At the same time, India Block has not yet decided the name of its candidate for the Vice Presidential election. Meanwhile, three nominations have been filed so far and the three have been canceled by the Election Commission.

Why nomination rejected

According to media reports, the three people who had filed nomination for the Vice Presidential election have been rejected by the Election Commission under sub -section (4) of Section 5 (B) of the Vice President Election Act. The three people whose nominations were rejected include Padmarajan from Salem, Tamil Nadu, Jeevan Kumar Mittal and Rajasekhar, resident of Delhi Moti Nagar.

Padmarajan and Jeevan Kumar Mittal attached a certified copy of the voter list of their parliamentary constituencies, which had their name as a registered voter but had made the notification for the Vice Presidential election before the release of the notification, so his nomination was canceled. At the same time, Rajasekhar could not deposit 15 thousand rupees for bail, due to which his nomination was also canceled.

Last date for filing nomination

The last date for filing nomination is 21 August and the documents will be examined on 22 August. The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is 25 August. If necessary, voting for the post of Vice President will be held on 9 September. Voting will take place from 10 am to 5 pm. There will also be counting on 9 September and the winner’s name will be announced.

Who did the NDA authorize to choose the candidate?

The NDA has authorized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President JP Nadda on Thursday to choose a coalition candidate in the Vice Presidential election. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the leaders of the coalition unanimously decided to authorize Modi and Nadda, who are the leaders of the House in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha respectively, to decide on their candidate. Due to the NDA having a sufficient majority in the electoral college with members of both houses of Parliament, the coalition candidate is almost certain to have a constitutional post.

CM of allies will be present in Delhi?

The NDA allies are expected to be present in the national capital to participate in the NDA candidate’s nomination process. Shiv Sena leader and Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde and NCP chief Ajit Pawar are also expected to be present during this period. Compared to the maximum number of 788 members, the effective number of both houses is 781, as one of the lower House has six vacancies in the House. The number of members of the ruling NDA is around 422, much higher than the 391 figure of the majority.
