Canadian PM Mark Carney responded to inviting PM Modi.
Ottawa: Canadian PM Mark Carney has invited PM Modi to attend the G-7 summit. PM Modi has also accepted his invitation. At the same time, the opposition in Canada has started raising questions about this decision of PM Carney. However, all these questions have been answered by PM Carney of Canada. Describing India as the fifth largest economy in the world and several important global supply chains, Canada’s PM Mark Carney has said that the Indian leadership should be part of the discussion at the upcoming G-7 summit.
Answer to opposition questions
When Carney was asked why PM Modi was invited even after being accused of Indian relations in the murder case of Nijjar. Responding to this, he said, “There are some countries that should be involved in these discussions. India is the fifth largest economy in the world, effectively the most populous country in the world. (This) is at the center of many of the supply chains. (This) is at the core of many of these supply chains, so it is meaningful to invite them.” Carney said that India and Canada have agreed to continue law enforcement negotiations. He said, “Important that bilaterally, we have now agreed to continue law enforcement negotiations. There has been some progress on this, issues of accountability have been accepted.”
Legal process on Nijjar’s murder continues
Carney has also responded to the questions asked in the case of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s murder in 2023 murder. Canadian PM Carney said that the legal process in this case is going on, so it is not appropriate for him to comment on it. He said that several major issues will be discussed at the G-7 summit, including energy security, digital future, important minerals and partnership in the formation of infrastructure in emerging and developing countries. Carney suggested that he has invited Modi after talking to other G7 member countries.
Opposition criticized PM Carney
Let us know that the Canadian NDP party criticized Carney for inviting Modi. He said, “This decision is very disturbing.” Actually, there was a drastic decline in India-Canada after the then Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in 2023 after accusing him of a possible Indian relationship in the murder of Nijjar.
When will the G7 summit be held
The upcoming G7 Summit in Canada will be held from 15 to 17 June in the Kananaskis region of Alberta province. This conference holds special significance for Canada, as it is taking place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of G7. The main objective of this conference is to discuss and cooperate on issues such as global peace, security, economic stability and digital change. America, France, Germany, Japan, United Kingdom, Italy, Canada and European Union are joining it.
India’s position in G7
India has been continuously involved in the G7 for the last 6 years. Now India will attend this summit for the 7th time. However, India is not a member of G7. But he has been joining it as an invited member. PM Modi has confirmed through his ex account that Canadian PM Mark Carney has called and invited him to G7. Let us know that this time PM Modi’s attending in this conference was being said to be skeptical due to differences between India and Canada on sensitive issues like Kashmir and Khalistan. But now the curtain has been removed from it.
New start in India-Canada relations
This initiative of Canadian newly elected Prime Minister Mark Carney has raised hopes of improving India-Canada’s stressful relations. Let us know that during the tenure of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the relationship between New Delhi and Ottawa is going through a very bad phase. The then Canadian PM Justin Trudeau had accused India of killing Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, which was rejected by India. Since then, India and Canada’s relations deteriorated a lot. India and Canada expelled the diplomats of each other from their respective countries. Along with this, many other relations with each other countries were also broken. But now Carney is expected to melt the frozen ice in this Indo-Canada relations already. (Input-AP)
