Pakistan independence day: Independence Day is celebrated with great pomp on 14 August every year in Pakistan. This day holds historical significance for Pakistan. Pakistan believes that on 14 August 1947 it gained independence and was born as an independent Islamic nation. But, in such a situation, there is a question in the minds of many people that why is Independence Day celebrated in Pakistan on August 14, while India celebrates August 15? We get the answer to this question in India-Pakistan partition, the end of British rule and the historical conditions of that era.
There was a demand to create a separate country
During British rule, issues of political differences and cultural identity between Hindu and Muslim communities in India were getting deep. Taking advantage of this, the Muslim League leader Mohammad Ali Jinnah, while supporting the ‘two-nation theory’, demanded a separate Muslim dominated nation. In the Lahore proposal of 1940, the demand was formally laid that Muslim -dominated provinces in India be made a new country.
Partition of India and Pakistan
India was partitioned in 1947 and the British Parliament passed the Indian Independence Act 1947, under which two independent countries named India and Pakistan came into existence. Pakistan was built by combining Muslim -dominated areas (Western Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, North West Frontier Province and East Bengal). India got independence in Hindu-dominated areas as well as multi-religious form.

Why does Pakistan celebrate Independence Day on 14 August?
There was a difference of about 30 minutes between India and Pakistan in 1947, it is still today. The process of transfer of British power was to begin from midnight of August 15, but due to the difference of time, the ceremony in Pakistan took place on the night of 14 August. Because of this, Pakistan considered its independence date 14 August.
When did the transfer of formal power occurred?
In Karachi, the main event of power transfer between Governor General Lord Mountbatten and Pakistan leaders took place on 14 August 1947. The main ceremony of India took place in Delhi on 15 August. For this reason, the formal formation of Pakistan was accepted a day before i.e. on 14 August 1947. On 14 August 1947, the flag was hoisted in Karachi by Pakistan’s first Governor General Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan.
Mests with Islamic calendar
Some historians believe that the day of August 14, 1947 matched the 27th Rosa (Lalatul-Kadra) of Ramadan of the Islamic calendar, which is considered a very sacred day in Islam. Hence it was chosen as auspicious and historical date for Pakistan.
