Bada mahadev puja: Every Shiva devotee offers special worship of Lord Shiva on the day of Sawan month, Monday and Bada Mahadev Pujan. In many Shiva temples, special consecrations and rituals are performed in the name of ‘Bada Mahadev’. Importance of Bada Mahadev Pujan: ‘Bada Mahadev’ refers to the vast or omnipresent form of Lord Shiva, whose worship helps to relieve all the sufferings and fulfill the wishes. This worship is dedicated to the immense power and welfare form of Lord Shiva. And the temples are located in Bada Mahadev in the major tourist place of Madhya Pradesh, where Bada Mahadev is worshiped every year on the Trayodashi date of Jyeshtha Shukla Paksha.
– Prevention of all sufferings: Lord Shiva is called ‘Bholenath’, who are happy soon. His worship removes the biggest problems, diseases, defects and obstacles of life.
– Planetary defects peace: Lord Shiva is also considered to be the suzerain of the planets. Their worship can reduce the effects of inauspicious planet defects (eg Saturn, Rahu, Ketu) present in the horoscope.
– Salvation and peace: Worshiping Shiva brings mental peace and eventually attains salvation.
– Fear of time death is removed: Chanting Mahamrityunjaya Mantra and Shiva worship removes the fear of premature death and provides longevity.
– Wish fulfillment: Devotees worship Mahadev for success in their various wishes such as children, wealth, good health, marriage or career.
Worship method: This worship is usually performed on Monday or on the day of Bada Mahadev Pujan.
1. In the morning bath and resolution:
– In the morning, get up in Brahma Muhurta and retire from bathing and wear clean clothes.
– Clean the place of worship with Ganga water.
– Take water, Akshat and flower in your hand and take a pledge to fast and worship for your wish fulfillment in front of Lord Shiva.
2. Establishment of Shivling/Shiva statue:
– Install Shivling or Lord Shiva statue in the house or in the temple. If there is a Shivalinga, then give him priority in worship.
3. Abhishek/ Rudrabhishek:
– It is the most important part of ‘Bada Mahadev Pujan’.
– Abhishek with water: First of all offer Ganga water or pure water stream on Shivling.
– Panchamrit Abhishek: After this, anoint with a mixture of milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar i.e. Panchamrit.
– Abhishek with water again: After Panchamrit again, anoint it with pure water.
– Other substances: You can also anoint with sugarcane juice, sandalwood water, perfume, saffron mixed milk etc. as per your strength and desire.
While doing Abhishek, keep chanting ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ or Mahamrityunjaya Mantra continuously.
4. Makeup and Arpan:
After Abhishek, wipe the Shivling and clean it.
– Sandalwood: Apply sandalwood paste on Shivling.
– Bhasma: Offer Bhasma or Vibhuti.
– Flowers and garlands: Lord Shiva has 3 leaves of bell -leaf, mak flower, dhatura, cannabis, shami leaves, and white flowers. You can also offer their garlands and offer them.
5. Dhoop, lamp and naivedya:
– Light a lamp of ghee and incense.
– Offer sweets, fruits, cannabis, dhatura, or seasonal fruits to Bholenath. Shiva is often offered cold and cannabis.
6. Mantra chanting and lessons:
– Chant ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ mantra at least 108 times.
– Recite Shiva Chalisa, Rudrashtak, Shiva Tandava Stotra, or Mahamrityunjaya Mantra.
– You can also recite Shiva Purana or Shiva Mahimn Stotra as per your wish.
7. Story and Aarti:
– Read or listen to Shiva story after worshiping Shiva.
Finally perform the aarti of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. Offer prasad after completion of worship.
Special information about this fast:
– Monday’s importance: Since Monday is dedicated to Lord Shiva, ‘Bada Mahadev Pujan’ performed on this day is special.
– Nirjala/ Falahar: Devotees keep fast by eating Nirjala or Falhari, only after eating fruits according to their reverence and physical ability.
– Importance of offering water on Shivling: In the summer season, offering water on Shivling has special significance, because Lord Shiva had drunk Halahal poison, which caused excessive heat in his body. Offering water gives them coolness.
– Importance of Belpatra: Belpatra is very dear to Lord Shiva. It is said that Shiva itself resides in the root of Belpatra. It is very auspicious to write ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ on Belpatra.
– Rudraksha holding: Wearing Rudraksha after worshiping Shiva is also considered auspicious, because Rudraksha is the form of Shiva.
