New Delhi: As they say, bachche mann ke sache! Well, it is so true. Children are innocent souls. Some children get all the privileges. However, governments, NGOs, and other institutions take care of those children who are deprived of even basic needs. In India, there is a day for children, which is observed yearly on November 14. In this article, let us know why Children’s Day is celebrated on November 14 and why it was created.
Why is Children’s Day observed on November 14?
Children’s Day, also known as Bal Diwas, is celebrated in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister.
Earlier, Children’s Day was observed on November 20, along with World Children’s Day. It was only after 1964 that Children’s Day was observed on November 14, after the demise of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
The day was observed on November 14 to honour Jawaharlal Nehru as he was deeply fond of children and believed they are the foundation and strength of a strong nation.
Jawaharlal Nehru said, “The children of today will make India of tomorrow. The way we bring them up determines the future of the country.” The first Prime Minister of India had a developed vision for children’s education.
The day honours Jawaharlal Nehru and raises awareness about children’s rights, care, and education.
India celebrates Children’s Day as Bal Diwas, which highlights its cultural and emotional importance. This celebration reflects national pride and values, making it a uniquely Indian event.
He was worried about how education was developing in the country. To address this, he helped create some of the top educational institutions, including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru is famously known as ‘Chacha Nehru’. In Hindi, Chacha means ‘uncle’.
