Jagannath puri prasad mystery: One of the four dhams of India, Jagannath Puri Temple in Odisha, its grandeur, centuries -old traditions and above, is famous worldwide for its Mahaprasad. Here, not only God, but also three types of offerings are given to the devotees. These offerings have their own glory and belief, one of which is specially made for a dying person. Why is it called Mahaprasad?

Generally, the enjoyment offered to God in any temple is called Prasad, but in Puri it is called Mahaprasad. It is believed that the bhog that is made in the Jagannath temple is prepared under the supervision of Goddess Lakshmi himself. It is said that when Prasad is made, there is no aroma in it. After this, it is taken to the temple of Mata Bimala Devi and offered bhog. Then the offering of this prasad is offered to Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra in the main temple. After this, as soon as this offerings are brought out of the temple, there is a fragrance from it. For this reason, it is called Mahaprasad. After this, the devotees get in Anand Bazaar located in the temple.
Jagannath Puri’s offerings become three types

The Mahaprasad of Jagannath Puri is mainly of three types, and each has its own special significance:
1. Sankudi Mahaprasad:

The first comes Sankudi Mahaprasad. This is the offerings that devotees can accept inside the temple complex and it is not allowed to be taken home. It includes various types of indulgence, such as rice (rice), lentils, various types of vegetables, greens, and oatmeal etc. This prasad is hot and refreshed, which is served directly to the devotees from the kitchen. The experience of accepting it gives a spiritual peace in itself. It is believed that by receiving this offerings in the temple premises, the person gets immediate virtue.
2. Sukhila Mahaprasad:

The second type of Mahaprasad is called Sukhila. As is clear from the name, it mainly consists of dry sweets and salty objects. This prasad is particularly convenient for devotees, as they can also bring it to their homes and distribute it to their family and relatives. The distribution of this prasad is considered to be a virtue, from which everyone receives the blessings of Lord Jagannath. This includes crispy, laddus, and other dry sweets which do not spoil for a long time.
3. Nirmala Prasad: Amazing offerings

Nirmala Prasad is the most amazing and miraculous Prasad of all of them. It mainly contains dried rice, which is specially made in Koili Vaikuntha located near the temple. This offerings are not specially prepared for a normal person, but for dying persons. It is believed that the person who is taking his last breath and receives this Nirmala Prasad, destroys all his sins and he gets salvation easily. It is considered to give peace to the soul, reducing the fear of death. Koili Vaikuntha is the place where old statues of Lord Jagannath are buried, which increases the sanctity of this offerings.
