There was a stampede at New Delhi railway station on 15 February this year. Its investigation report has now been submitted by the High Level Committee. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has also mentioned this high level investigation report in Rajya Sabha. He has also cited the cause of the accident citing this report.

There was chaos due to heavy goods falling

The report said that on 15 February, there was chaos due to falling heavy luggage on the head of a passenger. On seeing this, Afratfari took the form of a stampede. Due to this 18 people died.

In Parliament, the Railway Minister said that a high level committee created to investigate the incident has submitted its report. The report said that the accident took place at around 8:48 pm on the foot over bridge-3 stairs connecting platform number 14/15.

Devotees take heavy goods with them

A large number of devotees were present at the New Delhi railway station to board the trains going to Prayagraj at the time of the accident. According to the report, many passengers were walking with stuff laden on heavy heads. Due to which it was difficult for the passengers to walk smoothly on the foot over bridge.

Passengers started falling on each other

Meanwhile, heavy goods fell from a passenger’s head, which increased the pressure on the stairs. Passengers started falling on each other. The report said that this stampede was limited to platform number 14/15 stairs.
