A cliffhanger of a conclusion had viewers anticipating a season 2 of the popular Korean drama Vagabond. The action series led by Lee Seung-gi and Bae Suzy was hailed for its rollercoaster-like plot twists, jaw-dropping action sequences, and stellar acting performances. Most recently, word about the filming of the second edition has spread like wildfire — we take a look at all the details.

Action has always been a mainstay of Korean entertainment, with popular titles like My Name, Taxi Driver, Healer, and The Fiery Priest clocking in major viewership percentages. Vagabond is a major part of this lineup — deemed a classic of sorts. Directed by Yoo In-shik of Extraordinary Attorney Woo fame — the 16-episode series saw a stuntman unravel a major political corruption scandal with the help of an honest South Korean National Intelligence agent. The cast included Bae Suzy, Lee Seung-gi, and Shin Sung-rok — each of whom earned major accolades for their respective performances. After the last episode left the audience wondering, speculations about season 2 were rife — although Vagabond’s production team Celltrion Entertainment and network SBS have remained tight-lipped about it all.

What is the K-drama Vagabond about?

The series follows struggling stuntman Cha Dal-geon (played by Lee Seung-gi) whose world revolves around his nephew, whom he’s raising single-handedly. However, when the latter loses his life in a tragic air crash — the former is left with grief, disbelief, and a lot of unanswered questions. Frustrated by the lack of answers and prompt action from authorities, he launches his own investigation into the disaster. This brings him close to numerous dangers. His only support? Honest and hardworking South Korean National Intelligence agent Go Haeri (played by Bae Suzy). Together, they unravel a major political scandal.

Who stars in Vagabond?

The action is led by My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho star Lee Seung-gi. He plays Cha Dal-geon — a stuntman struggling to make ends meet while raising his nephew. After the latter passes away in a B357 crash, he unravels a terrorist plot and government conspiracy. Helping him along the way is covert operative Go Hae-ri — played by Doona and Start Up star Bae Suzy — who works to support her family. She reports to the National Intelligence Agency’s information team head Gi Tae-ung — played by Doctor Lawyer actor Shin Sung Rok.

The popularity of both leads soared with the series. Lee bagged the Top Excellence Award in a Miniseries (Male) title at the 2019 SBS Drama Awards while Suzy took home the Top Excellence Award in Miniseries (Female) award. The two also won the Best Couple Award at the same award ceremony.

Will there be a season 2 of Vagabond?

Recently, a former governor of the Ilocos Sur region of the Philippines Luis “Chavit” Singson noted that season 2 of Vagabond was being shot in the island nation in an interview, according to ANC News. Besides stating that he was a producer, he hinted at the potential addition of Filipino actors in the cast. However, no official Korean channels have confirmed the news so far.

In 2019, Soompi quoted a source from the production team stating, “It was planned and produced with a second season in mind. However, season two has not been confirmed, and it’s currently being reviewed. We are reviewing the schedules of the actors, writers, and directors.”
