The Asia Cup will end on 29 September and the first Test against the West Indies will begin on 2 October in Ahmedabad, after which the second match will be held in New Delhi from 10-14 October. There will be two Test matches against South Africa in November.
In such a situation, it is difficult for Bumrah to play in the Asia Cup. A BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity, “This will be a difficult decision, but Bumrah likes Test cricket and the World Test Championship points are at stake. As far as T20 is concerned, he can play series against New Zealand in January, which will be a dress reference for the T20 World Cup.”
The source further said, “If Bumrah plays Asia Cup and suppose India plays the final, then he will not be able to play against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. Obviously, the question arises whether you need Bumrah against West Indies or he will play in the Asia Cup after a month’s break and then he will play two Tests against South Africa.
