Will not be seen on TV and internet with online betting apps? Government’s big decision

The Union Cabinet has taken a big decision regarding online betting apps and gambling websites. The cabinet has approved the online gaming bill, which can be tabled in Parliament soon. The aim of this bill is to regulate betting and gambleming apps. The advertisements related to this will be banned from broadcasting on TV and other media platforms, so that it does not attract the youth. Apart from this, a provision of jail has been made along with heavy fine on promotion of betting apps in this bill.

Campaign against betting apps

However, the government has been strict about betting and gambleming apps for the last few years. In the last few years, more than 1400 betting apps and websites related to it have been banned. Apart from this, GST on online gaming was also made 28% and then 30%.

The government imposed a GST of 28% on online gaming in 2023, which was increased to 30% in 2024-25 financial year. Not only this, the offsore gaming platforms were also brought under tax. Also, the agency also gave power to restrict these apps and platforms.

Will be fined heavy

Last year, the government has also added online betting and gambling apps to the inter -criminal provisions of the Indian Justice Code. Along with heavy fines in cases related to this, a provision of jail has also been made for 7 years. Apart from this, you can also ban Betting and Gambling apps and websites if you want. The bill related to online gaming is placed in the state list of the constitution.

More than 1400 apps blocks

Let us know that from 2022 to February 2025, the government has worked to block more than 1400 betting apps and websites. Apart from this, the Ministry of Education has also issued advisory for teachers and parents in schools to prevent this addiction in children. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has also directed TV channels that it is mandatory to put a disclaimer to run advertisements related to betting and gaming apps to know about the financial risk associated with it.

During the IPL or other cricket events, there is a flood of advertisements of such online betting apps. Online betings and advertisements from social media, internet to TV channels like Dream 11, My11Circle, Dafabet appear. After the new law is enacted, the government will be able to regulate such betting apps and online games etc., so that the youth can be saved by its side effects.
