Around 11 pm on October 31, the woman visited the basement washroom, where she discovered the phone’s video-recording function had been activated. After inspecting the device, she suspected that she might have been one of the individuals being recorded.

Bengaluru: A 35-year-old woman claimed to have found a mobile phone kept at the top of a wall inside a restroom at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, which is located on Bannerghatta Road in Bengaluru.

After coming out of the washroom with the phone in hand, the woman was approached by a young man working at the hospital. He demanded she return the device, but she refused and began to shout, which attracted the attention of nearby hospital staff. The man was immediately detained by colleagues and later arrested by the police.

The woman, a ward helper at the hospital, saw the phone while inside the toilet. She said that the device was placed in such a way that it could capture video footage of women’s private areas. According to her, the phone was kept on top a wall separating the toilet from another restroom.

In her statement to the police, the woman described the incident, which occurred around 11 pm on October 31, when she visited the basement washroom. Upon searching the phone, she found that its video-recording function had been activated, which lead her to believe she was one of the persons being recorded.

As she stepped out of the washroom, the suspect, identified as Yellalinga from Kalaburagi, approached her and referred to her as “sister,” asking for the phone back. She refused to return it and started shouting for help. This caused a crowd to gather and the accused was quickly detained.

Accused arrested

When confronted, Yellalinga said that he worked as a contract-based helper for a patient at the hospital. The police arrested Yellalinga and he was later sent to Bengaluru Central Prison. Authorities said that the phone had been placed in the restroom earlier that day, but no other videos were found on the device.
