Woman forced to take ‘medicines’ to bear male child, now fighting for life in hospital with damaged kidneys

The FIR stated that Ruby lost her both kidneys due to infection and she underwent dialysis frequently.

Agra: In a shocking incident reported from Agra district of Uttar Pradesh, a woman was forced to consume several types of medicines by her husband and in-laws in order to make her bear a male child. In the process, the 35-year-old woman lost both her kidneys and is fighting for her life in hospital.

Agra woman mentally harassed for not having baby boy

Following a complaint, police have now filed an FIR against woman’s husband and in-laws and other family members. The woman has been admitted to hospital for the last three months. The woman named Ruby had given birth to three girls and was under pressure to bear a male child. She married Ashish Kumar in Agra’s Jagdishpura in 2015, according to a report in Times of India.

It is alleged that Ruby’s husband and her in-laws were mentally harassing her to bear a baby boy. Ruby alleged that she was forced to take a variety of medicines and other herbal medicines. She also alleged that her husband threatened to leave her if she did not take those medicines. According to the victim, her husband told her that these medicines would make her bear a baby boy. The FIR stated that Ruby lost both her kidneys due to infection and she underwent dialysis frequently. As Ruby’s health condition worsened, she confessed about her ordeal to her brother Ashu.

Victim Ruby says police did cooperate initially

Some three months ago, Ruby shifted to her parents’ house with her three daughters. Ruby’s family claimed that they tried to file a police complaint but the police didn’t cooperate.  The victim also said that her family also tortured her for dowry. She said she was abandoned by her in-laws and husband after she developed kidney complications and refused to pay for her medical expenses.  A case has now been registered against husband and her in-laws under Section 488-A (cruelty), 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC and Dowry Act.
