New Delhi: Upset over her daughter’s relationship, 42-year-old Alka Devi made a shocking decision: she hired a hitman to kill her own child. However, in a twist of fate, it was Alka who ended up dead. The hired assassin, Subhash, turned out to be the daughter’s lover, and in exchange for a marriage proposal, he murdered Alka. The crime came to light on October 6 when Alka’s body was found in a millet field under the Jasrathpur police station in Etah district, Uttar Pradesh.

The chilling murder story began to unfold on October 5 when Alka travelled to Etah for a court case but did not return home. Concerned, her husband, Ramakant, tried to reach her, but her phone was switched off. After searching in vain, he received a call from the police the next evening, asking him to identify a body. After the identification, Ramakant filed a complaint at the Jasrathpur police station, naming two men—Akhilesh and Aniket—from their village as suspects.

Akhilesh and Aniket were accused of kidnapping Alka’s daughter in the past. Naya Gaon police later arrested Akhilesh and the girl was safely rescued and sent back to her family. Traumatised by the ordeal, Alka sent her daughter to her maternal home in Sikandarpur Khas village in Farrukhabad.

It was there that the daughter, still a minor, began a relationship with 38-year-old Subhash, who had previously served 10 years in prison. Subhash gave her a mobile phone so they could stay in touch. Unhappy with this relationship, Alka made a plan to kill her daughter and offered Subhash Rs 50,000 to carry out the murder. What she didn’t know was that Subhash was the very man her daughter was involved with.

After Subhash revealed the plan, the daughter convinced him to kill Alka instead, promising to marry him. Together, they plotted her killing. When Alka failed to pay the promised amount, Subhash lured her to Agra, then to Etah, where he strangled her. Both the daughter and Subhash have been arrested by police.
