Cummins took 6 wickets for just 28 runs in 18.1 overs in South Africa’s first innings, which is the best bowling figure made by any Test captain at Lord’s ground. Earlier this record was named after Bob Willis of England, who performed 6/101 against India in 1982.

Cummins opened his account by dismissing Vian Mulder (6) on Wednesday 11 January, and then on the morning of the second day, Temba Bawuma (36). He then dominated Australia in the match by dismissing Kyle Viren (13) and Marco Jansan (0) in the second session. David Bedingham (45), who was the top scorer for South Africa, also became a victim of cummen.
Cummins not only ended South Africa’s innings by dismissing Kagiso Rabada (1), but also completed his 300 wickets in Test cricket. He became the eighth Australian bowler to achieve this feat. Due to his deadly bowling, South Africa’s team collapsed for just 138 runs and Australia got a lead of 74 runs in the first innings.
