South Africa won the World Test Championship (WTC) Trophy for the first time by defeating Australia at Lord’s. After this historic victory, Keshav Maharaj could not control his feelings. He described it as a proud moment for the country. At the same time, many players including Rabada, Jansan and Verraine described this victory as the most special moment of their lives.
South Africa made history by defeating Australia by 5 wickets on the fourth day in the World Test Championship 2025 final on 14 June, Saturday. With this victory on Lord’s ground, the team finished the drought of the ICC knockout for 27 years. After the match was over, the team’s star spinner Keshav Maharaj could not stop his feelings and the eyes became moist.
Kagiso Rabada took 9 wickets in the match and described winning the final as ‘beyond the statement’. He said, “We worked hard, and are entitled to this victory. Some people used to say that we did not defeat big teams, but this time we defeated Australia.”
At the same time, Marco Janson described the innings of Aidon Markram’s 136 runs as ‘Dream Performance’. He said, “I was just praying. Everyone in the dressing room was calm but the noise of the audience on the field was giving us courage.”

David Bedingham described it as a ‘fruit of hard work of 27 years’ and said, “We were very nervous but Markram and Temba’s batting kept us calm. Thankfully we won.”
Talking about the match, in the first innings, South Africa was maintained by Kagiso Rabada in the match with five wickets, which reduced the Australia team to just 212 runs. However, Pat Cummins hit back six wickets and stopped South Africa for just 138 runs in the first innings. In the second innings, all the Australian batsmen flopped except for Michel Stark and Alex Carrie and the entire team was all out for 207 runs. This gave South Africa a target of 282 runs.
After this, Aidan Markram, who landed on the field, played a 136 -run match innings and captain Bawuma played him well by 66 runs. The partnership of both of them completely excluded Australia from the match. With this victory, South Africa has become the third team to win the World Test Championship title and has written a new chapter for itself in the history of cricket.
