IND vs AUS: Vaibhav Suryavanshi reached the three-figure mark in just 58 balls to script history in U-19 red-ball cricket.

New Delhi: 13-year-old Bihar youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name in history books by smashing a swashbuckling century against Australia U-19 in an unofficial Test match in Chennai on Tuesday. Suryavanshi breached the 100-run mark in just 58 balls to register the fastest-ever hundred for India in U-19 red-ball cricket.

The explosive was unbeaten on 81 off 47 balls on Day 1 after giving India a superb start on the opening day.Starting Day 2 at 103 for 0 in 14 overs, Suryavanshi reached his maiden Youth hundred in no time at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Suryavanshi reached the three-figure mark in just 58 balls to script history. While he became the fastest Indian to smash a ton in U-19 red-ball cricket, he missed out on breaking Moeen Ali’s all-time record for the quickest century in Youth Tests by just two balls. The iconic English all-rounder holds the record for the fastest U19 Test ton in just 56 balls against Sri Lanka in 2005.

Who is Vaibhav Suryavanshi?

A batting prodigy, Suryavanshi hails from Bihar’s Samastipur. He had earlier scripted history by making his debut in the Ranji Trophy at the age of 12, breaking the record held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.

Suryavanshi made his Ranji Trophy debut for Bihar against Mumbai earlier this year at the age of 12 years and 284 days while Sachin debuted aged 15 years and 230 days old and Yuvraj at 15 years and 57 days old.

Suryavanshi’s 81 off 47 balls on Day 1 helped India post 103/0 in their first innings against Australia at Stumps. Vaibhav was involved in an undefeated 101-run opening stand with Vihaan Malhotra, who was not out on 21 off 37 balls at stumps on the opening day of the youth Test.

Suryavanshi, incidentally, is also the youngest Indian to hit a century in red-ball cricket for India U-19 team.
