45 people sentenced in case related to mine explosion in China

Beijing, November 27 (IANS). 45 people have been sentenced in connection with the explosion that killed 11 people in China’s Heilongjiang province a year ago. 6 people were injured in this accident. This information was given by local mine safety officials.

According to the Heilongjiang branch of the National Mine Safety Administration, the gas explosion that occurred in a coal mine in China’s Shuangyashan city on November 28, 2023 was a major incident of violation of the country’s laws and shortcomings in safety management, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Investigation into the matter found that the explosion in the mine was directly caused by a technical fault in the power cable following the natural discharge of underground gas in the mine and ventilation problems.

Shuangyang Coal Mine is operated by Longmei Shuangyashan Mining Co., Ltd. The company is a subsidiary of Longmei Mining Holding Group, a major state-owned coal producer in Heilongjiang province.

According to local media reports, the explosion also caused economic loss of 19.5 million yuan (about 2.7 million dollars).

Six workers at the Shuangyang coal mine, out of a total of 45 people, have been detained. “He will face party and administrative disciplinary punishment after judicial punishment,” investigating officials said.

A total of 48 people, including senior executives of Shuangyang Coal Mine, Shuangyashan Mining Co., Ltd., Longmay Mining Holding Group and safety watchdogs, are subject to party and administrative disciplinary action.

According to investigating officials, an electromechanical maintenance worker may also be fired after this incident.

According to the investigation report, Shuangyang Coal Mine Administration will be punished with fines.
