75 percent reservation bill passed in Bihar Assembly

Patna. Reservation Amendment Bill 2023 was introduced today on the fourth day of the winter session of Bihar Assembly. Which was passed unanimously. There is a proposal to increase the scope of reservation to 75 percent. The main opposition party of the state, BJP has given its support to the bill. Now this bill will be placed in the Legislative Council. From where after passing it will be sent to the Governor. The law will be made after the approval of the Governor.

Nitish Kumar said in the Assembly that our appeal is that the Central Government should also conduct the caste census. He has also demanded from the Center to increase reservation. In the House, the CM has reiterated the demand for granting special status. BJP raised questions over the absence of mention of EWS reservation in the bill. On which Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Choudhary said that the reservation of EWS will be implemented from the second Act. EWS reservation will continue to be applicable as before. Apart from this, Bihar Secretariat Service Amendment Bill 2023, Bihar Goods and Services Tax Second Amendment Bill-2023 was also introduced. Earlier, the Bihar Cabinet on Tuesday had passed a proposal to increase the reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Extremely Backward Classes EBS and Economically Weaker Sections EWS from the existing 50 percent to a total of 75 percent. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar gave a statement in this regard while concluding the discussion on the caste survey report presented in the Assembly on Tuesday. This announcement by Kumar has come a few months before the Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2024. According to the caste survey report presented in the Bihar Assembly on Tuesday, more than one-third of the families in the state are living on an income of Rs 200 or less per day, while the Scheduled Caste-Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) who live on the same income are The number of families is about 43 percent.
