New Delhi: Excitement is increasing about the upcoming T20 series between India and Australia, there is a possibility that Suryakumar Yadav will take over the captaincy. As the ICC World Cup 2023 nears its conclusion, the focus has already turned to the five-match T20 series starting on November 23.

With the World Cup semi-finalists yet to be decided, Team India’s focus is on planning for the Australia series. Several key players, who are currently part of the World Cup squad, are expected to be rested to ensure that they remain fresh for the upcoming T20 series. Unfortunately, Hardik Pandya, who is captaining the T20 team, will be unavailable for the Australia series due to his fitness issues.

Rohit Sharma, who is captaining the ODI and Test teams, cannot play the role of T20 captaincy for this series. Instead, the focus is on Suryakumar Yadav and Ruturaj Gaikwad as potential captaincy candidates. Under the leadership of Pandya, vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who won the gold medal for the Indian team in cricket in the Asian Games, are at the forefront of this captaincy race.

The decision on captaincy may depend on Suryakumar Yadav’s choice, as unless he opts for rest, he may be given this role. Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy experience in Asian Games victories adds to his credentials.

Looking at the team combination, players who have shown their talent in the Asian Games like Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar are likely to be selected.

Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Yuzvendra Chahal are expected to return and if Axar Patel recovers from injury then they may also get a place in the team. Ravindra Jadeja is expected to be rested before the South Africa tour, so the series against Australia will see a mix of emerging talent and experienced players. We are waiting for the end of India’s World Cup campaign to announce the team.
