A Palestinian walks in Gaza City on the fourth day of the temporary ceasefire between Hamas and Israel

Its ceasefire agreement with Israel continued for the fifth day on Tuesday amid Hamas’s promise to release hostages and people. The two sides agreed to extend a ceasefire agreement until Wednesday, promising two more rounds of exchanges of Palestinian prisoners held by Hamas and held in Israeli jails, but Israel said all After the release of the hostages, he will resume the war with “full force” to destroy Hamas.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will visit West Asia again this week, raising hopes of a further extension after the Gaza ceasefire agreement was extended by two days.

This will be Blinken’s third visit to the region since the war between Israel and Hamas began last month. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a statement on Monday reiterating his call for a long-term ceasefire and the release of all hostages.

About 160 hostages are still believed to be held by Hamas and other terrorists, enough to potentially extend the ceasefire agreement brokered by Qatar, Egypt and the US by two weeks, but these hostages include many soldiers. And Hamas may increase its demands in exchange for their release.

Hamas launched an unexpected attack on Israel on October 7 and took about 240 people hostage. Israel says it is committed to destroying the terrorist group and ending its 16-year rule in Gaza following the October 7 attack by Hamas. He has accused Hamas of using civilians as shields during its crackdown on residential areas in Gaza.

Hamas released 11 Israeli women and children who arrived in Israel on Monday night in the fourth round of exchanges under an originally four-day ceasefire agreement that came into force on Friday. 33 Palestinian prisoners released by Israel arrived in Ramallah in the West Bank early Tuesday.

Qatar has announced the extension of the ceasefire agreement by two more days, raising hopes for its further extension. Due to this, more help can be delivered to Gaza. 23 lakh people of Palestine have been badly affected due to Israeli bombing and ground attack.

Israel has said that the ceasefire period can be extended by one day for every additional 10 hostages released. Apart from the US and Egypt, Qatar, a key mediator in the conflict, announced an agreement on an extension for two more days “under the same conditions”.

Under the ceasefire agreement, 51 Israeli hostages and 19 hostages from other countries have been released. Apart from this, 150 Palestinians have been released from Israeli jails. Most of the Palestinian prisoners released so far are teenagers accused of throwing stones and bombs during clashes with Israeli forces. Some of these people were convicted by Israeli courts of attempting to carry out deadly attacks.

Many Palestinians view these prisoners as heroes who resisted the occupation. Most of the freed hostages appear to be physically healthy, but one 84-year-old woman freed on Sunday was hospitalized in serious condition after she was denied medication while in captivity.

Ruti Mundar (78), an Israeli hostage released by Hamas, told Israel’s ‘Channel 13’ in an interview that she was given good food in the beginning but later the conditions started deteriorating and she was kept in a closed room where she remained for about 50 days. Slept for the whole day with a sheet spread on plastic chairs.

Munder said he spent all his time with his daughter Karen and grandson Ohad Munder-Zichri. During this time, Ohad’s ninth birthday fell. Mundar was dragged from his home in Nir Oz in southern Israel on October 7. Her husband Avraham (78) was also taken hostage and is in Gaza. His son died in the attack. Mundar told the television channel that initially he was given chicken, canned food and cheese to eat along with rice.

He told that tea was given to him in the morning and evening and sweets were given to the children. According to Munder, “However, later the economic situation started deteriorating and the food habits also changed.”

Since the beginning of the war, Israel has tightened its grip on Gaza, due to which there has been a shortage of food items, fuel and other basic goods. According to Munder, the room she was held in was ‘suffocated’ and hostages were prevented from opening a skylight, but she managed to open a window.

Two Israeli TV channels showed Yahia Sinwar, the top Hamas leader in Gaza, meeting hostages in a tunnel and assuring them that they would not be harmed. Amid the ceasefire, people living in Gaza City and northern parts came out of their homes and buried the bodies of their relatives killed in the Israeli war.

The footage from northern Gaza shows that almost every building has been damaged or destroyed. A UN-led coalition estimates that more than 234,000 houses have been damaged across Gaza and 46,000 have been completely destroyed.

23 lakh people of Palestine have been badly affected due to Israeli bombing and ground attack. The health ministry of Gaza-ruled Hamas said more than 13,300 Palestinians have been killed since the war began, about two-thirds of whom are women and minors. 1,200 Israeli people have been killed in this attack. Most of these people died in the initial attack by Hamas on October 7.
