Fathima Beevi’s Death Cause
Former Governor of Tamil Nadu, Fathima Beevi, died on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at the age of 96. According to several sources, she was under treatment in a private hospital in Kollam, and there she took her last breath in the afternoon.
Fathima Beevi’s funeral will be performed today, November 24, 2023, at her native place in Pathanamthitta. Apart from that, various ministers and politicians across the country expressed grief and gave out condolences to Fatima’s family.
Veena Geoge, the Health Minister of Kerala, expressed her grief and said in a statement that Fathima made a mark as the first female judge of the Supreme Court and also as the Tamil Nadu governor. She added that Fathima was a brave woman who had many records to her name; she was a personality who, through her own life, showed that willpower and a sense of purpose can overcome any adversity.
Fathima Beevi’s Family
Fathima Beevi was born on April 30, 1927, at Pathanamthitta in the Kingdom of Travancore. She was born into the Rowther family as the daughter of Annaveetthil Meer Sahib and Khadeeja Beevi.
Fathima Beevi decided not to marry anyone. She was an independent and single woman who led her life solely without a husband and kids. She went to the town school and Catholic High School, Pathanamthitta.
She earned her bachelor’s degree of B.Sc. in chemistry from the university in Thiruvananthapuram. However, later, she pursued her B.L. from Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram.
Fathima Beevi’s Career Accomplishments
After earning a law degree, Fathima Beevi enrolled as an advocate in 1950. She started off her career in the lower judiciary of Kerala and then progressed to Munsif in 1958. After a lot of hard work, she was appointed as a judge in the High Court in 1983.
She was a permanent judge and retired as the Judge of the High Court in 1989. Later in 1989, she was elevated to Supreme Court Judge and retired from there in 1992.
Fathima also served as the Governor of Tamil Nadu from 1997 to 2001. However, her name was also proposed as the President of India, but the NDA Government chose the name of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
