Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia said that all the promoters unanimously appointed Sanjay Bangar as the head of cricket development of the franchise.

Bangar served as the head coach of Punjab Kings in 2014 and 2016. But in 2016, when Punjab Kings finished last in the points table, Bangar was sacked.

Then there were reports that Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta had a dispute with Bangar. After the match between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Mohali, Zinta had allegedly gone to the dressing room and abused Bangar and threatened to sack him. Zinta had blamed Bangar for the team's one-wicket loss.

Wadia said while talking to Cricbuzz, 'We got an opportunity to re-appoint Bangar. This decision was taken unanimously by all the promoters. We all wanted Sanjay to return because he had been with us before. When he started his career and now he has coached India. He has also been with RCB.

Under the guidance of Bangar, Punjab Kings were runners-up in the first season. But after this his performance remained very poor and the performance of the franchise remained poor in two consecutive seasons. Sanjay Bangar was the former batting coach of the Indian team. He worked with RCB as the batting coach and took on the role of head coach in 2021 and 2022-23. Then he was thrown out.

Ness Wadia termed Sanjay Bangar's appointment as a homecoming and said that he and the franchise management were very happy when RCB released the former Indian all-rounder.

Wadia said, 'There was no informal farewell on separation in the first term. In my opinion this is not correct. And hopefully Sanjay will stay with us for some time. I am very happy that he will bring his experience. I think you will see a very good structure being formed and the Punjab Kings team will become one of the strongest teams in the coming years.

Remind that the IPL 2024 auction will be held in Dubai on December 19. Punjab Kings are left with a purse of Rs 29.1 crore.
