IPS officer G Sampath Kumar has been sentenced to jail for 15 days over a contempt of court case by MS Dhoni.
MS Dhoni’s complaint stated that IPS Officer G Sampath Kumar made a derogatory remark against the Supreme Court and Madras High Court in connection with the IPL 2013 Betting Case. It’s a long-pending case. In 2014, Dhoni filed a 100 Cr defamation suit against the officer who had made allegations against MSD linking him to the IPL Betting scandal. Even in a written statement, G Sampath Kumar accused the Supreme Court of deviating from the rule of law.
Kumar had raised concerns about how the Justice Mudgal Committee report, formed to probe the 2013 match-fixing allegations, was managed and claimed that the SC had motives in not releasing specific documents to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Tamil Nadu based IPS officer G Sampath Kumar investigated the IPL 2013 betting scandal, this was one the big controversies of IPL history, where several names came to the limelight but Kumar was removed from the investigation when it came to light that certain bookies had provided him with money to exclude their names from the case but the suspended officer was acquitted by a court in 2019 due to insufficient evidence.
