Minor accused of murder of Indian security guard in New Zealand
Auckland, 22 December (IANS). A 17-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of a 25-year-old Indian security guard in a suburb of West Auckland, New Zealand on Friday.
Ramandeep Singh was reported unconscious just after midnight on 18 December and was declared dead after being found in the Royal Reserve car park in Massey, the New Zealand Herald newspaper reports.
Born and brought up in Kotli Shahpur village of Gurdaspur, Punjab, Ramandeep Singh moved to New Zealand in 2018 on a study visa to pursue higher education. He was the only son of his parents.
The latest arrest comes after a 26-year-old man was detained on Monday and charged with the murder of Ramandeep Singh. Detective Inspector Aaron Proctor said: “Ramandeep Singh's family have been informed of the latest arrest. Two people are now before the courts in connection with Singh's murder.”
He further said, “Our investigation team is working hard day and night to bring justice to Ramandeep Singh. We are continuing to piece together the events leading up to his murder in the early hours of Monday morning.”
ArmourGuard, the company that employed Ramandeep Singh, said its community was devastated by his sudden death, leaving behind heartbroken family and friends in mourning.
“We express our sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Ramandeep Singh. We are offering them our full support during this difficult time,” the company wrote in a social media post.
