Hou Chihui wins women's 49 kg snatch championship

Beijing, April 2 (IANS). At the 2024 Weightlifting World Cup held in Phuket, Thailand, Chinese player Hou Chihui won the championship in the women's 49 kg weight category by breaking the world record.

In the snatch competition, Hou Chihui was successful in lifting 97 kg in her second attempt. However, she failed in her third attempt to lift 99 kg.

In the clean and jerk competition, Hou Chihui lifted 113 kg in the first attempt, but failed to lift 120 kg in the second attempt. After adjusting his condition, he lifted 120 kg in the third attempt.

DPRK player Lee Seongyum successfully lifted 120 kg in his first attempt and 124 kg in his second attempt, breaking the world record with a total lift of 221 kg and winning the championship. Therefore, Hou Chahui won two silver medals with a clean and jerk of 120 kg and a total score of 217 kg.

The Thailand 2024 Weightlifting World Cup will be held from March 31 to April 11. For the Chinese weightlifting team, this is the most important competition before the Paris Olympics. According to International Weightlifting Federation rules, Thailand must compete at the World Cup if athletes wish to qualify for the Paris Olympics.
