New Delhi: Karan Johar has found himself at the centre of recent speculation about investing in Swiggy, the popular online food delivery platform. However, the filmmaker has now put those rumours to rest. In an official statement released by Dharma Productions, the filmmaker categorically denied any involvement with Swiggy.

Karan Johar’s official statement

The statement read, “Certain sections of the media are falsely reporting that Mr Karan Johar has invested in Swiggy, the online food delivery service. These reports are untrue. Mr Johar has not invested in Swiggy.” While the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil director dismissed these claims, rumours have surfaced that Bollywood veterans Madhuri Dixit and Amitabh Bachchan might have a stake in the company. However, no official confirmations have been made.

Meanwhile, Swiggy is making headlines of its own, gearing up for a massive IPO. Reports suggest the company aims to raise $1.4 billion (approximately Rs 11,664 crore). This comes after initial plans for a smaller fundraise of around Rs 3,750 crore ($450 million) were revised. The increase indicates Swiggy’s ambitions to bolster its position in an increasingly competitive market.

Following in the footsteps of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the filmmaker is set to make his OTT directorial debut with a big-budget web series for Netflix. According to sources, this female-led project will go into production in early 2025, adding to Netflix’s growing portfolio of high-profile Indian content.

“Karan Johar’s show will be a marquee project, akin to Bhansali’s Heera Mandi,” a source revealed to Pinkvilla. “The script is locked, and Karan will serve as the showrunner.” With an illustrious history of directing blockbusters like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, fans are eager to see how Karan will bring his signature style to the OTT space.

Aside from his OTT debut, Karan is currently busy promoting Jigra, a film he has co-produced with Alia Bhatt. The duo is actively pushing the project, building anticipation ahead of its release on October 11.
