The Union Cabinet has approved the PM Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) to encourage sustainable agriculture and the Krishonnati Yojana (KY) to ensure food security and self-sufficiency.

New Delhi: With the aim to boost farmers’ income and ensure food security for middle-class families, the Centre on Thursday approved schemes worth more than Rs 1 lakh crore. The PM Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana and Krishonnati Yojana were given the go-ahead in a cabinet meeting.

The Union Cabinet has approved the PM Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY) to encourage sustainable agriculture and the Krishonnati Yojana (KY) to ensure food security and self-sufficiency.

The total combined expenditure for these initiatives will amount to Rs 1,01,321.61 crore, as stated in a government post on X. The Cabinet also confirmed the consolidation of all centrally sponsored schemes under the Ministry of Agriculture into two overarching schemes.

Briefing about the schemes, Union Minister Aswhini Vaishnaw said the schemes encompassing farmers’ income and food security is a very big programme that has multiple components and many of the components have already been approved by the Cabinet as separate schemes.

“Some of the components will be done by the ministry and some more will come into the Cabinet for approval, but overall this creates a complete package or a complete umbrella of schemes for the farmers to increase their income and to make sure that the food security for middle-class families is maintained,” he added.
