At present, the Supreme Court has rejected the petition to ban WhatsApp, which is the most used in the country.
If the news is to be believed… Petitioner software engineer Omanakuttan KG had sought a ban on WhatsApp in the Kerala High Court, alleging that it was not functioning as per the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Conduct Code) Rules, 2021.
Not only this, it was also said in the petition that there is a lot of possibility of manipulation on the part of the user, it is not possible to trace the origin of the message being broadcast.
Apart from this, it was also alleged that WhatsApp had refused to follow IT rules.
In this case, the petitioner also said that it has been mentioned in the updated privacy policy that it will store, access and use the personal data of its users, which is a serious violation of the right to privacy.
Apart from this, many allegations were also made, but… Kerala High Court rejected the petition on 28 June 2024 saying that the petition was filed prematurely.
The news is that… Now, a PIL seeking direction to the Central Government to ban the operations of WhatsApp in view of alleged violations of orders of legal authorities in the country has been dismissed by the Supreme Court!
