There should be a judicial inquiry on Sambhaal violence, the truth will come out: Iqbal Mahmood
Sambhal, 26 November (IANS). On Monday, SP MLA Iqbal Mahmood spoke to IANS on the violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. He reacted to the FIR lodged against his son.
The SP MLA said that he returned to Sambhal from Lucknow on Sunday night itself. Before this I was getting all the updates. After the survey on last 19th, the administration talked to us and praised my son’s commendable role. However, the survey was conducted again later. We are not able to understand a thing as to what has happened. I respect the court very much, but I believe that one side was heard but the other side was not given a fair opportunity to present its side. Everyone should get a chance to express their views. We respect the court. When the decision regarding Babri Masjid was taken, the entire country respected it, not a single voice of protest was raised. But, the survey was done here once so why did it happen again. No order was given for this. People have not liked this thing happening again.
On his son being named in the FIR, he said, “If my son is involved in this violence, there will be video footage of him, there will be inflammatory speeches. He should be present tomorrow. I think all this is a matter of investigation. True.” Whoever has filed the FIR will be investigated. If Sohail is not seen anywhere, he will remove his name from the FIR.
He said that through some channel he had come to know that the name of his son and the MP from Sambhal had appeared in the FIR.
Iqbal Mahmood demanded a judicial inquiry into the Sambhal violence, saying that this would turn milk into milk and water into water. People are accusing the police of violence and that the police resorted to lathi charge. Angry people pelted stones. Bullets were fired, resulting in the death of four people.
He said that he is ready to cooperate in the investigation. He has no opposition. Even our opponents cannot speak ill of us. We have good relations even with our opponents.
