Construction of approximately 90 thousand hectares of high-standard agricultural land completed in Shigatse

Beijing, November 28 (IANS). An on-site meeting on farmland water conservation and high-standard farmland construction in the winter and spring of 2024 was held in Shigatse City. As the ‘Granary of Shigesang’, Shigatse has completed the construction of 89,667 hectares of high-standard agricultural land since 2019, with a total investment of 3.3 billion yuan.

In recent years, Shigatse City has prioritized the construction of high-standard agricultural land. In 2023, soil improvement of more than 15,573 hectares was completed and more than 27,493 hectares of irrigation area was connected and improved. The coverage rate of improved highland barley varieties here is 96.46%.

In 2024, the comprehensive mechanization level of grain farming and harvesting in Shigatse exceeded 74.5%.

In addition, Shigatse City emphasizes the leading position of farmers and herders in high-standard agricultural land construction projects, organizes farmers and herders to participate in project construction supervision during project implementation and approval, and organizes ‘ecological farms’ Promotes project and environment friendly materials.

According to statistics, in 2024, during the implementation of high-standard farmland construction in Shigatse city, the income of local farmers and herders increased by more than 57.2 million yuan.
