Two sons sentenced to life imprisonment for murder of father for property
Court’s comment-
A rare and heart-wrenching situation of acquiring property by killing one’s father.
Man changes with time, but life values do not change. Scope and directions change, but ideals, objectives and values do not change.
Mau. Every Hindu is born with three debts, Dev Debt, Rishi Debt and Pitra Debt, in which to be free from the ancestral debt, he should have a righteous son who can perform the rituals like Shraddha, Pind Daan etc. after his death. In Hindu religion, highest priority has been given to the son and his responsibilities and duties. According to Hindu theology, “Poonam Narakaat Trayate Iti Putrah” means son means one who saves from hell. Property and the wonderful disputes over it have been an integral part of every timeline, but acquiring property by killing one’s father is a rare and heart-wrenching situation.
Azad Shatru, the ruler of Magadha is known as Pitrahanta in history, Ajatashatru attained the throne by killing his father Bimbisara. It is true that humans change with time, but life values do not change. Scope and directions change, but ideals, objectives and values do not change. Certainly, today there is a deep need to keep ourselves free from corrupt values and pass on the tradition of good values to the next generations. The importance, integrity and soundness of the parent-child relationship relative to property is akin to God.
