New Delhi, 29 November (HS). The Defense Ministry has signed a Letter of Intent with the UK during the third Joint Working Group meeting in Portsmouth for Electric Propulsion System. The agreement will enable co-design, co-construction and co-production of state-of-the-art technology for Indian Naval ships, including planned landing platform docks with full electric propulsion systems.

According to the Defense Ministry, a Letter of Intent (SoI) for cooperation on the design and development of electric propulsion systems for the Indian Navy between the Defense Ministries of India and the United Kingdom has been signed in Portsmouth on November 28. The Letter of Intent was signed by Rajiv Prakash, Joint Secretary (Naval Systems) from the Indian side and Rear Admiral Steve McCarthy, Director of Ship Operations and Capability Integration, British Ministry of Defence. This is part of the third joint working group meeting of the SOI Electric Propulsion Capability Partnership. The agreement also symbolizes the commitment to promote indigenous development of advanced technologies.

The ministry said in a statement on Friday that this letter of intent will strengthen the Navy’s commitment towards indigenous innovation and deeper defense cooperation in the future. This MoU will serve as a comprehensive framework for cooperation in co-design, co-construction and co-production of electric propulsion capability for future naval ships. Through this, it is envisaged to install a complete electric propulsion system in the landing platform docks to be constructed in Indian shipyards.
