Beijing, November 29 (IANS). The Information Office of the State Council of China released a white paper discussing the development of rural roads in the country during the new era. The document highlighted that over the past decade, China has improved or constructed 2.5 million kilometers of roads in rural areas. By the end of 2023, the total length of rural roads will exceed 46 lakh kilometres.

The White Paper emphasizes that rural roads are essential to transport infrastructure. They cover vast areas, serve large populations and provide significant public welfare benefits. They are often the most important and only mode of transport available in rural areas, playing a vital role in enhancing the welfare of farmers, improving living conditions and modernizing agriculture and rural communities.

According to the white paper, since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the development of rural roads has entered a new stage. Currently, all towns and villages that meet certain conditions have paved roads, resulting in an extensive network of basic rural transportation infrastructure.

The document also outlines a rural road development strategy tailored to China’s national conditions, demonstrating China’s wisdom and strategies for global poverty alleviation efforts.

Furthermore, the white paper expresses China’s willingness to enhance exchanges and cooperation with other countries in the field of rural road development in the spirit of openness, cooperation and mutual benefit.
