Bengaluru vlogger murder: Aarav Hanoy, accused of stabbing his 19-year-old girlfriend Maya Gogoi to death in Bengaluru, was arrested after being on the run for three days. Investigations revealed the murder followed a personal dispute. Hanoy bought a knife and rope after an argument. Police are probing further motives and circumstances.

Bengaluru: Being on the run for three days during which he switched places from one state to another, Karnataka Police have arrested Aarav Hanoy who allegedly stabbed to death his 19-year-old Assamese girlfriend at a service apartment in Bengaluru’s Indiranagar.

Preliminary investigations suggest that a personal dispute between the two escalated to the extent of the accused killing his girlfriend with a knife, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) D Devaraja said.

Maya Gogoi, 19, was allegedly stabbed to death by her male friend, Aarav Hanoy, a resident of Kannur, Kerala. Police said Gogoi’s body was discovered in the service apartment on Tuesday, partially decomposed.

CCTV footage from the apartment revealed that the victim and the suspect arrived together on November 23. After allegedly committing the murder, Hanoy fled the scene.

Karnataka to Madhya Pradesh and then UP: How accused stayed on the run

After a thorough analysis of the crime scene and technical evidence, CCTV footage was found showing the suspect leaving the service apartment on Tuesday morning, the DCP said.

To track him down, three teams were formed: one dispatched to Kerala, another to North Karnataka where the suspect had been moving, and the third dedicated to gathering technical data.

After two days of investigation, it was revealed that the accused travelled from Raichur to Madhya Pradesh, then to Uttar Pradesh, before returning to Karnataka. He was arrested at 4 pm on Friday in Devanahalli and is currently being interrogated.

Accused bought knife and rope after argument

Preliminary investigation into the case revealed that Aarav worked as an intern at a private firm at a salary of Rs 15,000 and met Maya Gogoi on the Bumble dating app six months ago.

On November 23, the couple checked into the service apartment where an argument between them turned ugly following which Aarav ordered a knife and a rope from Zepto. This debunks the earlier theory that the murder was premeditated and that the accused had come prepared with items to kill Maya.

She was killed a day after they checked into the accommodation after the accused fled, leaving her body behind.

Victim was stabbed in chest, had multiple injuries on body

She suffered multiple injuries, including wounds to her head, shoulder, and other parts of her body. The fatal injury was a knife wound to her chest, which ultimately led to her death, the police officer stated.

Both arrived at the service apartment on November 23 at 12:28 p.m. The suspect left the premises on Tuesday, November 26, at 8:19 am, the DCP added. After leaving, Hanoy went to a nearby location and switched off his mobile phone.

Police probing reason behind person dispute

Preliminary findings indicate that the motive behind the crime was a personal dispute, though it remains unclear whether it was related to marriage or another issue. Further insights are expected after examining the accused’s laptop and phone, the DCP stated, adding that the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the murder.

The accused was raised by his grandparents after both his parents divorced and remarried. Police are also investigating whether he was struggling with depression. The incident came to light on Tuesday when staff at the service apartment alerted the police about a foul odour emanating from the room.

A team of police officers, accompanied by forensic experts, quickly arrived at the scene. According to a senior police officer, a case has been registered under Sections 103 (murder) and 238 (causing the disappearance of evidence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
